Back from the Dead South
Well, I’m back from my holidays now. Weird time of year to take holidays? Yeah, but when you work in a school district technology department, summer is the busy time, and certain other commitments take precedence over holidays.
At any rate, we just spent a nice week-plus visiting friends and family in the Okanagan, and even got a bit of sunshine! Made a frenetic trip to IKEA as well to get some chairs and sundries. I love IKEA, and it’s a good thing for my budget that the closest one is 18 hours away!
While we were in Kelowna, the Goddess and I had a blast going to thrift shops and antique stores looking for furniture for our bedroom. We found a pretty nice dresser that has cool retro lines at the MCC shop, and a gorgeous vanity that Jack refinished for us at another place. I’ll post some pictures once I unpack the trailer. Also, Coastal gave Thing Two a huge drafting table, which is something he’s wanted for EVAR, so we came back with a pretty decent load.
Once of the things we had planned in K-town was an anniversary get-together with a bunch of our friends who are at significant milestones in their marriages: Jack and JEM at 25 years, the Goddess and I at 15, OSOK and Coastal at 10, Tex and Ferf at 9 (but they were married in the States, so with the exchange rate, it’s 10), and Shirtless and Tiny are hitting their first. Coastal had booked us a private room at Moxie’s, but when we got there, they had given it to someone else, and wanted us to sit in the main restaurant. With sixteen people in our party, that was going to be a disaster, so we decided to bail and just go back to Jack and JEM’s and order in Greek. OSOK in the meantime had gone to negotiate with the manager for compensation, and he started off by informing the poor fellow that he could expect a health inspection, since his (OSOK’s) brother is a regional health inspector in the area. Needless to say, we don’t call him OSOK (One Shot, One Kill) for nothing, since he came out of the restaurant with $250 in gift cards! We all went back to Jack and JEM’s place and had a wonderful evening eating Greek food and drinking wine.
We had a great time, and it was a bit depressing to get back to typical Terrace weather (+2 and raining/snowing/sleeting), but we were really glad to get home. Now I have to finish the bedroom flooring this week so it can be stained before we leave again this weekend!

Okay, the truth is the guy at the restaurant took one look at OSOK and thought “by health inspector, he really means a couple of guys on Harleys with lead pipes”. Uh, I don’t want no trouble mister!
BTW, IDiot doesn’t work as an anti-spam word ‘O’s and zeros getting confused.

Badger - the weekend was tremendous! You are the best all time and it was (as always) a pleasure to hang with you and the goddess! Feel free to move back to K-Town any time!

Miss you all already! It’s soooo quiet. It was a great time, and I think I’ll yank back on the elastic bands I put on you all so that you’ll move back to K-town.

Whether it’s K-town, where by this time of year the day-time temps are even with us, or your town, I can always take a little cold weather to be with such warm friends. Of course, so long as we’re on this temperate coast, you’re always welcome to come for a warm-up visit.
